The Black Cat Story

For years, Susan Pegram and her husband, Kyle Quillen, shared a love of antiques and dreamed of one day owning an antique store of their own. They always imagined that dream would come later, closer to retirement. Then, in January 2024, Susan came across a National Cash Register Model 332, manufactured in 1910. The antique brass register was still in working condition and weighed nearly 90 pounds, but Susan was determined to bring it home. She and Kyle placed it on their kitchen island, where it became a daily reminder of their dream and the small steps they could take toward making it happen.

They thought they were still years away. Not long after, Susan discovered that an established antique store in downtown Millsboro was for sale. The timing was much earlier than they had planned, but the opportunity was too special to overlook. In May 2024, Susan and Kyle took the leap, taking ownership of the longtime antique store and beginning its next chapter as Black Cat Antiques.

Black Cat Antiques calls 225 Main Street in Millsboro, Delaware home. Built in 1925, the building has served the community in many ways throughout its century-long history. It began as a general store and, over the years, was used to sell appliances, farm equipment, and furniture.

In 1996, the building became an antique store for the first time. Nearly three decades later, Susan and Kyle continue that tradition while bringing their own vision to the space.

Today, Black Cat Antiques spans 12,000 square feet across three floors and is home to more than 60 dealers, each offering their own unique mix of antiques, vintage finds, collectibles, furniture, and treasures waiting to be discovered.

And that 1910 cash register that once sat on Susan and Kyle’s kitchen island as a reminder of a someday dream? It now represents just how quickly the right opportunity can turn that dream into reality.

Black Cat Antiques is proud to carry a century of Main Street history into its next chapter.
